Mirembe Kawomera
Coffee Project
Sunrise house is honored to be a partner with the Mirembe Kawomera Coffee Project.  Sponsored by the Thanksgiving Coffee Company of Fort Bragg, California, the Project is a co-operative of farmers in Uganda.

By ordering this delicious coffee, you will be supporting the farmers AND Sunrise House Orphanage.  This is because of the generosity of Thanksgiving Coffee, which will allow us to donate the proceeds of our sales of Mirembe Kawomera coffee to the orphanage.

We are delighted that the Director of the coffee cooperative, JJ Keki, will be coming to Anthem, Arizona on March 13, 2006, as part of his U.S. tour.

Opened in April 2004, Sunrise House is now home to 50 children who live, work, play and study there.  Click here for photos

Welcome to our new website

Sunrise House orphanage is home to 50 children who otherwise would have little hope of earning an education.  The project is located in Fort Portal, Uganda and its primary U.S. sponsor is the Rotary Club of Anthem (Arizona, USA).

Sunrise House was founded in April 2004.   The children attend local schools.  We provide all of their needs including food, shelter, clothing, medical care and school tuition & uniforms.  These children have lost one or both parents and many of them are responsible for the care of younger siblings.

The cost of supporting each child is only $600 per year.  However, the effort to raise the $30,000 annual budget is a challenge and we could use your help.  If you can provide a one-time donation or a monthly donation, your support will make a difference in the life of these children.  To donate, please email us.  Or consider buying the incredibly delicious Ugandan Coffee described on this page.

Thanks to a donation from Uganda Telecom, there is already an expansion of the orphanage that could accomodate an additional 50 children.  However, until we attain a higher level of sponsorship we cannot accept additional children.

Facts About Uganda
Uganda achieved independence from the UK in 1962. The dictatorial regime of Idi AMIN (1971-79) was responsible for the deaths of some 300,000 opponents; guerrilla war and human rights abuses under Milton OBOTE (1980-85) claimed another 100,000 lives. During the 1990s the government promulgated non-party presidential and legislative elections.  More. . .
